Mulitple issues after updating today (02 December 2024)

My normal weekly zypper has been full of issues today. For this thread, I’d just like to focus on two of them:

1- I have a perpetual “akonadi_migration_agent” popup I’ve never seen before that has a bouncing progress bar that just goes forever. Nothing ever happens, I cannot dismiss this notification, the “pause” button does nothing at all. How can I get rid of / fix this issue? I have done some research and apparently this has been a bug for a LONG time but I haven’t found any conclusive fixes?

2- I tried doing a snapper rollback after the update today failed. I tried two snapshots: one from today (the pre) and also one from last week (the post). Both these snapshots booted up and have all the problems I’m encountering from today. How is this possible? It seems like it’s not actually loading up a snapshot? Or the snapshots are somehow broken? Or snapper itself is totally broken? These problems from after the update today should not be present on any snapshots prior to doing the update. I’ve done many snapper rollbacks over the years and I’ve never encountered this before. Makes me very nervous about my system now because now I don’t have faith in my backups?

  1. It depends on your Partitions.
If you have a separate partition for /home with ext4, no snapshot will help here.
So if the errors are at your /home partition, they will not be changed by any snapshot.

I don’t have any separate partitions for anything. I only have the single partition for the entire linux system (other than boot and swap), and it is the regular btrfs.

I think snapper is disabled by default for your home directory, but don’t quote me on that. So it doesn’t matter if it’s in a separate partition, I think.
