MSI Wind (Medion Akoya) Problems - Windows offscreen

I feel a bit disappointed by OpenSuse 11.1. 11.0 was rock solid, and everything just seemed to work.

On the same laptop, I thought great 11.1, and i’ve updgraded. I have 2 major issues.

  1. Sometimes windows seem to suddenly move off-screen. My resolution is only 1024x600 and I don’t know what causes it or how to solve it. It’s usually when you load a Yast2 screen.

  2. OpenSUSE 11.0 made everything look extra small, which was great for my netbook. With 11.1 the Windows are much bigger. Does anyone know how to make everything a bit smaller?
In both cases the resolution was set correctly.

Many thanks,

James lol!

Just a quick update, in xorg.conf looking under the monitor section, where all the modes are defined,

I removed any virtual modes from the conf file.

This seems to have fixed the windows jumping offscreen.

Smaller windows anyone?

Most if not all of the problems come from a bug in “compiz” aka “desktop effects”. If you go to “Control Center” it is under “Look and Feel”. On the first set of controls there is a single checkbox to turn it off. That is the quickest way around most of the problems.

A fix has been found for this bug, and we are waiting for the release.
