MSI GF75 Thin installation hard shutdown on device detection

Hey, recently I purchased my 1st laptop in over 10 years and I want to install openSUSE Leap 15.1 as part of my return to the Linux community, unfortunately the laptop performs a hard shutdown during device detection stage of installation. The laptop currently boots only Windows (Kubuntu was working fine on it by the way). what’s doing this and how can I install openSUSE Leap 15.1 on it? Laptop: MSI GF75 Thin 8RD running Intel Core i7 8750H, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti (optimus) Apologies in advance as I’m very rusty when it comes to providing information

Try adding “nomodeset” (without the quotes) to the kernel command line. That can work around video problems, though it’s only a guess that it might help.

If you are using traditional BIOS booting for the installer, just enter “nomodeset” in the box for kernel parameters (toward the bottom of the boot screen).

If you are using UEFI booting, then hit ‘e’ on the boot menu. Then scroll down to find a line that starts with “linux” (or, actually, “linuxefi”). Hit END to get to the end of that line. Enter " nomodeset" (without the quotes). Use CTRL-X to resume booting.

thanks, that solved the issue for now

Note this is just a test situation you still need to fix the problem/driver to deal with Optimus.

Normally you would install either suse-prime or Bumblebee and optimally NVIDA driver
