So I have tried using the one click install for gspca2 and it wouldn’t install. I also used YaST and hand installed it, seemingly successfully.
Even so, in Kopete under video the webcam screen looks wrong, there is no cam image. Instead, there is a multicolored thick line across the top of the image window and a blank remainder of that window/screen.
I have been troubling with this since yesterday with no luck, even after googling. Would somebody help me trace down what is going on?
In Kopete, under video, under device, under input, it shows “sonixj” and the device is “USB camera”. I don’t know if that helps…>:(
There may be something else going on. For a long time, only aMSN would work with my vx-3000. Even then, it did not work too well. I put the camera aside for a long time. That is important because I can’t answer you directly.
In the time I gave up on the webcam, I made many system updates. So I can’t tell you which worked. I’m now running KDE 4.4.3 and kernel 2.6.31.12-0.2-default i686. The webcam is now working in both kopete and aMSN (which I like better.) The gspca is
webcam-gspca2-kmp-default
It seems that gspca2 comes in two versions. Make sure your gspca is version 2. I believe that ver.1 comes with opensuse. Also make sure you have a kernel match with the version you install.

Prexy, I envy you but it is good to know that it can work…
These are for openSUSE 11.2, but packages for 11.1 also exist. Take care to install the correct package for your kernel.
I’m not sure whether you will need to blacklist the original gspca driver either (or whether it is simply replaced by the new driver). Someone else may be able to assist with more detail here.
