Fresh install, having issues with mpv playing ogg streams. MPV is not recognizing the format, that’s about the only message I get. Not sure how to debug.
Rhythmbox plays them streams fine, vlc too.
Does anyone have some suggestion on what to do ? Any help is appreciated.
as ogg is an open format openSUSE supports it out of the box, but you may have some mixed packages, tell us your repo list
zypper lr -d
All multimedia packages on openSUSE should come from packman so if you haven’t you should add and do a full vendor change to packman
mpv from the oss is by design crippled still it should play ogg try running it from a terminal and see the error messages.
I come from arch and debian with over 10 years of experience, but I was a bit confused about adding this extra repo since I didn’t read anything about it.
Especially I am confused about this issue since it is ogg/ vorbis and therefore I would have expected this to work out of the box without further issues. + I hadn’t read it on the wiki, see https://en.opensuse.org/Portal:Multimedia
BTW I also had issues with Rhytmbox; it would just start buffering all over again when a song was finished instead of just continuing to play the ogg stream.
well as you’re coming from arch TW seamed like a good choice, personally I prefer a stable (LEAP) to a rolling release mostly because the stable release has prebuild nvidia and ati video drivers as nouveau is terrible with plasma 5, and openSUSE uses delta rpm’s for updates for stable releases the update download is quite small, while using TW each week you get an almost completely new system with the latest and greatest apps and libraries but also with new unknown bugs and if you use nvidia propitiatory drivers you’d need to manually compile them with each kernel update.
Your issue might need a bug report as ogg should be supported out of the box but as most users switch multimedia packages to packman I don’t think anybody noticed it.
