Mplayer Error

Thanks for this. Finally smplayer works. A nasty bug for linux beginners. Smplayer and VLC are the most useful movie players with great subtitle support.

Will add precise instruction to my “openSUSE starter” blog for total beginners. openSUSE starter
I like the great guide made by cb400f but I want to show users of similar needs as I have how to get working everything in few steps.

Hello cepiolidus,

to get rid of this error please go to the line 86 in the system wide mplayer.conf file. You will find it in “/etc/mplayer/mplayer.conf”. There please remove the “,alsa,” pattern and put there “ao=alsa” (without the quotation marks ). The error should be gone.

Thanks Roland, that also solved my mplayer/smplayer error! I will try to reproduce the error, so to be able to report it to developers…
