mplayer crash signal 11 gmplayer problem?

Yesterday (sunday April 1st) I downloaded mplayer and gmplayer from packman.links2linux.de through Yast2 software management.

The versions downloaded are both 1.0rc4_r34818-1.2-i586

My system is running SuSe 12.1 with KDE 4.8

After the programs were installed:-

  1. They were not visible in the SuSe program launcher menus (where they used to be seen and still are on my 64-bit system)

  2. When calling gmplayer through a terminal, mplayer announces a crash with signal 11 and terminates. There is no traceback information given

  3. When calling mplayer through a terminal with a filename mplayer works perfectly.

So it looks like there may be some kind of problem induced by gmplayer?

Maybe this is an April 1st Joke?

Has anybody else seen this? Got a fix?

I downloaded the kmplayer front-end and this IS seen in the program launcher menus and there is NO problem when it runs mplayer. Another pointer to a problem in gmplayer?

This was the same on my computer. If you don’t want to use KMplayer, while GMplayer is out of order, you could try SMplayer or UMplayer.

I am unhappy that gmplayer fails, but happy that I am not the only one it happens to!

Thanks F_Sauce. I am happy to use KMplayer for the duration. Hope it gets fixed soon.

I have the same problem; it’s apparently on 12.1 only … 11.4 works fine. Googling, other distros also noted the problem (Arch, etc), so it’s probably something to do with the 3.x series of kernels.

I filed information on the problem at Packman lists here:
[packman] gmplayer on openSUSE 12.1 crash](http://lists.links2linux.de/pipermail/packman/2012-April/010975.html) and
[packman] gmplayer on openSUSE 12.1 crash](http://lists.links2linux.de/pipermail/packman/2012-April/010977.html)

No response yet from Packman developers. First report to them was in late March.
