mp3 will not work

:(I just recently became interested in listening to mp3 files on my computer, previously using a cd player. When I try to play any mp3 file, the program (Amarok, kaffeine, Banshee, etc) refuses to play. They work okay on .wav files but not .mp3.

I’ve been through the Multi-media and restricted format installation guide as shown below:

After Amarok starts, the center pane shows “no track playing” and
Banshee shows grayed out files. Kaffiene shows “stopped”.

What else should I try?

Thanks for any advice.

Don’t know what happened but it started working properly. I didn’t make any changes from my first post.

OK - good

Gecko is for embedded media like windows media in web pages. But mostly you’ll not need that.
But if you do, you need the version from Red Dwarf. It’s listed in the guide.

Packman mirrors all provide the same thing. But the switch image is just showing a technique to make sure you are using Packman versions, which is important.
