What do I need to do to get mp3 and m4a files working?
Clicking the files opens the banshee media player but the files don’t play.

Thanks. I click on that link. Problem is that when I use the link for Gnome it tries to install loads of files and I get a message about conflicts asking me what to do.
I’m new to linux I have no idea what to select.
Is there an easier way to add support?
There will probably be loads of updates for GNOME and your system since 11.2 came out. That would explain the “loads” of files. You will need them anyway, but the conflicts have to be solved to do so. To help you we will need some output from your system. Open a terminal window and do:
zypper lr -d
Please also copy and paste the output you get about the dependency conflicts.
I’m not sure exactly what I selected when the conficts came up up mp3s now work but unfortunatly m4a files still don’t.
Any way I’ve copy and pasted that terminal
lee@linux-pvxr:~> zypper lr -d

Remove #1, 3, 5, 8 through the repo manager.
Then start the software installer, select the repo view, tick the Packman repo and click the line above the right panel that says “Switch system packages to…”, Accept and install, it will probably include all the updates as well. Just let it run. After it’s finished, reboot the system, and get back here with results. The multimedia issue might still be there but this would at least guarantee that your repos are OK, and the system is completely up to date.
Keep faith, it will work.
Thanks i’ll give that a try.
Can’t find the repo manager. Not the same one your are referring to anyway
Although I did check the update centre and there are no updates available. I think I may have installed them while I was getting flash installed a couple of days ago.
There is something called software repositories but it doesn’t have the ‘switch system packages to’ option
Thanks again.
I managed to get m4a files working now.
I couldn’t find the same repo manager program you mentioned but managed to get m4a files working by going to add/remove programs. searching for gstreamer and manually changing the gstreamer plugin bad and ugly to the packman repository version. Now both mp3’s and m4a files work fine.
I’ll keep looking for that repo manager though.
