Mozilla Thunderbird Rebuild Guidance Please

My working version of Thunderbird on TW laptop used a saved default profile from an earlier laptop installation. Since then my ISP changed the IMAP server domain. I do not recall what I had to do but it was not much and then I was able to continue working and updating etc. for a couple of years so that I am now on T’Bird v91.3.2 (64bit) and have not had any problems that I noticed.

I recently installed QuickFolders however and found to my surprise that the URI for all my current folders is based on the old domain name. I have no idea how this continued to work as my account settings are using the current ISP server address. On checking I find that it is only my laptop on which I am typing this that has the incorrect URIs. This is now a problem as I wish to use QuickFolders

I have been advised just to start over with a new build of T’Bird and copy over my existing default profile. This would be easy but just repeat and not solve my problem. Much of my data such as bookmarks goes back much longer than two years and I wish to keep all this.

If I start over I believe I can export and import my address books but what else should I retain from my present system. I do not need passwords as these are not held on my T’Bird but how do I save my History and Bookmarks? What folders/files do I need to copy over to the new system and how please?

Budge.

Have a look at ImportExportToolNG, an extension for TB, it lets you save/export/import all kind of data. One thing you must take care of, the versions of TB should be identical, older profiles won’t work in newer version.

Hi swannema, many thanks for the suggestion. I have used this add-on in the past but it seems primarily concerned with moving mbox files and folders but not the history, bookmarks, address books etc. It is those that I need. The rest can be built from my IMAP server source and then copying the quickfilters and quickfolders data from another machine. Will check out also on Mozilla forum.
Many thanks,
Budge.
