I’m running openSUSE 11.1 on a 64-bit machine and I have been having increasing trouble running Flash on the browsers–especially on Firefox.
I’ve installed the latest version of Flash available from the Adobe website (most recently, version 10.0.22.87 for Linux) and I’ve had the problem with the last three releases of Firefox (now using version 3.0.10).
Until today, Flash was inconsistent. Sometimes it would work, other time not. One of the sites I check daily uses Flash for still-graphic media, and it would always show the “need-plug-in” block, but if I’d close and re-open Firefox, that instance of Flash would work. Some other, video Flash instances would never work, no matter how often or recently I’d restart Firefox.
That behavior changed today, after I followed a suggestion elsewhere on this forum to update the nspluginwrapper then run
nspluginwrapper -i /usr/lib/browser-plugins/libflashplayer.so
Unfortunately, the change was not a benign one. Now the still-media Flash doesn’t run at all in Firefox, whether I restart the browser or not.
Interestingly, the still-image Flash seems to work without trouble on the Opera browser (on my openSUSE OS) and on the Firefox browser on an Ubuntu 9.04 OS on a different machine.
When I point my browser to about: plugins on the openSUSE OS, there’s no section for Shockwave Flash, but when I do the same on the Ubuntu box, I see two plug-ins, one for x-shockwave-flash and one for futureflash.
Any ideas what’s going on with my openSUSE-Firefox-Flash installation?
