I currently have 2 SATA drives one with Opensuse 11.0, and the other with 64 Studio. They are running in a dualboot.
I need to move these 2 drives to a new machine.
My question is in regards to whether the OS’s will boot up or not. All the parts in the new computer are linux compatible. But are there any Grub items that may need to be changed? or anything else?
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!
Not likely to be simple. Most of your conflicts will be from all the different hardware, in particular the mainboard.
I know I would just re-install - for the sake of sanity!
Just keeping my /home partitions
I see, I guess I will just backup everything and see what happens from there!
Well, it’s still doable, question of getting the right drivers in. The question is how much work it would be to do a new install and if this is a timesaver.
Have a look here, and the keyword is mkinitrd : Good Things To Know When Imaging Linux To Different Hardware - openSUSE Forums
I’ve moved a couple of boxes successfully using it…
Good luck!

Thank you for that link, although I won’t be imaging the drives, I’ll just be physically moving them. It contains some very good information.
