Mouse wheel scrolling through desktops

I use an MS mouse/keyboard combo model 6000 (ver. 2) and for the most part they work great, that is except for a problem with the mouse wheel scrolling through the desktops if the cursor is on a desktop. If the cursor is in/on a window it scrolls through the window as normal. It also scrolls through the desktops if I “side click” the mouse wheel as well. I’ve run sax2 and the mouse module doesn’t even appear but my Wacom tablet settings do. Very perplexing to say the least. Has anyone else experienced this? I ran a search through the forums but didn’t notice a possible solution. Any and all help is thoroughly appreciated.

That behaviour is by design.
In XFCE4 there is a setting in Window Manager Tweaks, Workspaces tab,
to disable this desktop scrolling, but in other Window Managers I wouldn’t
know where to find a similar setting.

This is one of kwin’s plugins. Take a look in the configs of the desktop effects in systemsettings - desktop

This is a KDE 4 feature. One that cannot be turned off (sorta) in
KDE 4 that comes with 11.2 (I think the version in 11.3 will have the
option). The “fix” is to use a Folder as Desktop view in KDE. That will at
least disable the “feature”… but the fix is in later versions of KDE 4.

A feature huh…figures. I hope they do something to make it optional in the next release and beyond cuz it’s a royal pain in the butt. Even if I so much as touch the scroll wheel whoosh there goes my desktop. Gotta scroll to get it back. I can certainly see making something like this an option for those who prefer it but to actually entertain the idea of making it permanent is insane. Then again, I guess I’ve seen far worse than this implemented over the years in Linux and Windows. Thanks for the heads up on it.

I think the option was added in 4.3 (??, maybe not the first release)… if not,
I know it’s gotta be there in 4.4.

It’s only a problem when using the default desktop view.
(again, that’s not an excuse for it… just saying that there is a sorta
workaround today… and yes, it’s what I do running 4.2.4 under 11.2 today)
