Mouse wheel scroll up causes previous page in Firefox 7.0.1 Suse 11.4

Curious behavior, scroll down with the mouse wheel works great. Scrolling up causes the page to scroll up but then Firefox flips to the previous page.
I am not sure if this is a mouse or a Firefox issue. I’ve looked at the mouse settings in Configure Desktop (KDE) and there is only one setting for how many lines to scroll with the mouse wheel and it is set to 3. Changing the value does not effect the flipping back.
The mouse is a Microsoft optical mouse. I have two Suse Linux boxes with a KVM switch. The other Suse is 11.3 and Firefox 3.6.15 and it does not do this with the same mouse.
Any ideas?
Thank you. I am still a newbie.

As openSUSE 11.4 now offers FireFox 7.0 via the Update repo (for security reasons), I guess youu never updated using the Update repo which makes you vulnarable. And in this case it could also remove the problem.

In any case, I guess that even the most conservative 11.4 users (that is those that do not want the risk of Factory repos and the like) have FF 7.0 and thus will not be able to check your problem on their own systems. At least, when I scroll up over this very page, it simply stops at the top and does not load another page.

Thank you. I was just at Mozilla looking at the current version. I downloaded it but was unsure how to proceed. A utility opens the tar but I don’t know how to get it to install 7.0.

I told you it is in the openSUSE Updte repo. No need to go anywhere else. YaST > Software > Online update. It will give you the list of Security and Recommended updates. You should do this on a regulary base.

Ok, I updated to Firefox 7.0.1 using YaST2. The scrolling up causes previous page is still happening. I would change the title of the thread, but I don’t know how to do that.

Done. (And I will now do the same, going from 7.0 to7.0.1  ).

Hey thanks. How do you change the title of a thread? I am the original poster so I’m guessing that I should be able to do it? Of course a Moderator can do it.

The mouse scroll thing is not a big issue, but if anyone has any ideas that I might try? Thanks.

Add this repository and install it with yast, I use it on one 11.3 machine
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/mozilla/openSUSE_11.3
I think you can select it also simply by going to the yast-> software
repositories-> add community repository

Try under a new user.

Thank you. I did create a new user, logged in, and the behavior is the same.

As a part of another thread I started, about display resolution, I am currently at 1024x768 instead of the original 1280X1024 and the behavior has vanished. If I mouse scroll UP, I do not go to the previous page

The mouse detection goes wrong, perhaps because of the KVM. You probably
will have to define it manually in the /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/ directory. I
don’t know exactly how.

Thank you Carlos
I am suspicious of the KVM.
I will try it without the KVM.
I do not know how to define in xorg.conf.d either

I am working now without the KVM and the mouse scroll wheel works properly. It did for a while yesterday with the KVM but then started having problems again. Now it is ok without the KVM. If it does not re-occur, I guess I better start looking for a new KVM.

I guess KVM are a pain with the new Xorg autodetection system. If X does
not detect the keyboard and mouse properly when starting, because they are
switched to the other machine, its got to fail.

The route is to define the things manually, old style… something I
haven’t done in a long time.

Interesting.
So if I am more careful with the start up sequence, it may auto detect properly?
I have not been being careful, just pushing both power buttons.
Thank you.
I am getting more familiar with defining things manually so that may also be a possibility.

Perhaps. If the KVM is switched to that computer when you boot it, it might
work.

With time…

A new KVM is ordered that will reach the resolution I need.

Thank you for your help and encouragement!
