Mouse freezes after resume

Hi,

I am running opensuse 11.4 on a Dell Latitude D830. Since this particular one that I am using has a weird keyboard layout that I am not comfortable with, I hooked up an old US keyboard via a PS2-USB adapter. That made the touchpad hard to reach so I hooked up an old three-button+scrollwheel logitech mouse through the same adapter (it has two inputs and a single USB output).

Everything works fine until I shut the laptop lid. When I open the lid and it resumes from sleep the mouse stops working. The keyboard works fine and the touchpad works fine. Logging in and logging out does not help. Rebooting the machine works - after that the mouse works fine till the next sleep-resume.

When the mouse is working the input seems to be coming from /dev/input/mice. If do a

cat /dev/input/mice

it prints some stuff onto the screen if i move the mouse.

But after a resume from sleep, doing the above does not result in anything getting printed on the screen. Please help me.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Vivek

Since you did not mention it. What happens if your mouse does not work after
wakeup and then you unplug the mouse and plug it in again (without logout
and without reboot of course)? Does it still not work or is it then
recognized again and starts working.
I think your problem is really the adapter/mouse combination and I would
invest in a cheap usb mouse, but that’s me.

I did try unplugging and plugging it back in. Yes, I have a spare USB mouse lying at home that I could probably use. It’s just that the keyboard works and not the mouse. I am just wondering why this is happening. Another friend of mine has the exact same problem. He resorted to using a USB mouse which works just fine.
