Mouse freezes after a few minutes

Hi community,

I’m new to linux, so i hope you can help me out with this:

Today i have successfully installed opensuse 11.1 kde 4.1. everything went fine, but after only 3-5 minutes of using opensuse, the mouse stopped working. i still could use the keyboard and the system responsed. after restarting the computer, opensuse’s desktop has changed noticeably. a minor thing, but still noteworthy: the time moved to the right side of the control bar, a window containing program icons disappeared. however, a few minutes later, the mouse froze again.

I have not found anybody or any thread, discussing/solving the same problem.

Thank you for any help!

I think I should add some notes: I’m using a standard optical mouse (with wire). it works fine with windows. so i believe it’s not the mouse or any hardware. could it be a linux driver issue?

it is more likely a beagle issue…

see that little dog (with a red tie around his neck) down on the
thingy bar? right click him, then left click on “Configure Kerry” a
new window pops up, click on “Daemon Status” and the next to the line
that says something like “Beagle service is curently running. Click
here to stop.” is a “Stop” button, click it, and then “OK” at the bottom.

does you mouse work now?

if that is not it then head BACK to the web forum’s search page
<http://forums.opensuse.org/search.php> to find all threads with any
of these terms in the title

freez* OR locku* OR lock-u* OR crash* OR hang*

(that is, after putting the above in the “keyword(s)” blank, then
SPIN the just below selector to “Search Titles Only”)

and, don’t tell me you didn’t find any!! (Hint most all the same
freezes that happened in v 11.0 are still around in v 11.1)

have fun

Thanks for your reply.

  1. I have disabled beagle by left-clicking on the icon. I can’t tell right now, whether this solution actually solved the problem, because it appears too sporadically.

Edit: Unfortunately, it didn’t solve the problem.

  1. I couldn’t find any threads about exactly the same problem. Most of them were not answered anyway. But I mainly searched Google for both English and German sites. However, I’m still going to search the forums for your suggested keywords too. Thank you so far!

Could it be affected by the graphics driver in any way? My SuSE still uses Vesa since i couldn’t figure out how to activate the installed Nvidia driver, because the mouse won’t let me properly. Btw.: I’ve got a GeForce 9400 GT card.
