My work is done using an AdderLink KVM adaptor which connects to computers in another room. There is a cable connection to the link device at my desk which has PS2 sockets for mouse and keyboard.
Sadly a microswitch my ancient Kensington Expert Mouse (Trackball) is failing so I purchased a new one. Of course the new mouse has an USB A plug.
I have tried a cheap and simple plug converter and this doesn’t work.
I also have spare an Adderlink CCP2U converter but this is intended to plug into a USB socket on a computer and receive the mouse and keyboards which have PS2 plugs, so both connectors are the wrong sex. I am not at all sure the adaptor is able to work in the “reverse” direction.
Please could somebody advise if there is a solution to this problem.
Twenty metres! And for the keyboard? I am sure you were joking but it is becoming a problem as I don’t know how much longer the trackball switch will last.
I checked with AdderLink who make my KVM remote switches. It appears they make two adaptors and I had purchased the wrong one.
Will try and swap. What I have is a CCP2U and all the ends have the wrong sex! I am told should have ordered KMU2P.
We shall see.
Hi Svyatko,
Many thanks for your suggestions and I understand. I am sorry to have wasted your time and apologise for not explaining fully my configuration.
I have a KVM receiver switch at my desk. This connects to the KVM sender in my server closet via cat6 cable. This in turn connects to a four channel KVM switch which enables me to select whichever computer I am working with at my desk. The mouse is at my desk and so is the connection for the KVM receiver.
My problem is that the KVM receiver is quite old and has PS/2 sockets for keyboard and mouse. My new Kensington trackball has an USB A plug not a PS/2 connection.
Inexpensive passive “adaptors” will not work. The active adaptor I have has the wrong gender at each end as it is intended to connect a keyboard and mouse to USB socket on a computer.
I have ordered an active adaptor which is designed to work in the other direction. Will report progress.
The sequel to this is that I have all the hardware and active devices working as they should but the trackball is too sensitive and I have slightly erratic behaviour with my screen windows jumping from 1 to 2 without being asked!
I am only able to use the Mouse settings screen and that does change things but not always in a good way. Is there any add-on settings screen for trackballs?
