I built a machine dedicated for OpenSuse for my parent’s. So I have not tested this with any other OS. I am not the main user here either. The idea was to have a stable machine that wouldn’t require my attention.
I am not sure what has caused the problem or if it is solved. I can try to provide more info if needed.
Motherboard is Asrock G43Twins. Don’t remember bios version by heart. 4GB RAM. E7400.
The machine is running 11.1 and lost the functionality of mouse buttons and keyboard at what seemed random. It could happen between 10 and 60 minutes after logging in. I disabled compiz, I believe that this made the problem less severe. Now only the mouse buttons disappear. This doesn’t happen in every session. My impression is that the mouse buttons come back if the user “wakes” the machine by using the keyboard. The mouse buttons do not disappear when the machine goes in to sleep/standby. But it seems to happen at random during normal use. At one point i thought it might be related to Flash, but it has happend even at the login window. As the solution to get the mouse buttons back alive seemed to involve getting a response from the machine by using the keyboard i disabled C-state and Enhanced halt state from the bios. It seems as if the problem is not returning now. It is too early to say though.
I am running kernel 2.6.27.23-0.1-default.
and what i believe to be linux graphics version 2.1
Would it make sense to update these?
