Mounted NFS share blocks reboot for 90 sec

nano /etc/systemd/system.conf.d/local.conf

gives

[Manager]
DefaultTimeoutStopSec=5s
DefaultTimeoutAbortSec=5s

Added

nano /etc/systemd/user.conf.d/timeoutstopsec.conf

with

[Manager]
DefaultTimeoutStopSec=5s
DefaultTimeoutAbortSec=5s

and systemreload, reboot, same 90s time-out

same content in

nano /etc/systemd/user/timeoutstopsec.conf

also no success, still 90sec time-out on reboot.

I have only the first two lines in /etc/systemd/system.conf.d/local.conf, and nothing related to timeouts or nfs in /etc/systemd/user.conf.d/.

What you really should do is identify the cause of your delay and deal with it directly.

sudo journalctl -r -b -3
...
Aug 18 17:12:56 dellscsi80722 systemd[1]: media-NAS07.mount: Unmounting timed out. Terminating.
Aug 18 17:11:27 dellscsi80722 systemd[1]: Tell Plymouth To Jump To initramfs was skipped because no trigger condition checks were met.
...

The NFS share doesn’t unmount, apparently.

I’m a bit puzzled. I have read and reread the thread, I may be missing something, wouldn’t be the first time. :wink: :roll_eyes:
However, you have got this advice from an actual developer:

Why didn’t you try at least? As @hui has pointed out, the file /etc/systemd/system.conf is there. You had a typo in your line:

…but there is no /etc/systemd/systemd.conf to set

In the correct file, the mentioned lines are already there with the default values, commented out with a hash. You just need to remove the hash and replace 90 by 5.

When ready to reboot, first check what’s using nfs: sudo lsof | grep nfs

No, it is not there in the current Tumbleweed with the current systemd. Of course, it does not prevent anyone from creating it if needed, even though it is discouraged, but it will have the same effect as creating drop-in.

What makes you think any of these options would have any effect on your problem? Did you even try to read man systemd.mount instead of some random page on Internet?

sudo lsof | grep nfs

Checked before logged out of your (Plasma) DE session I wouldn’t expect to help. I anticipated you’d log out, then Ctrl-Alt-Fn to check logged in as root to ensure no file manager or other app should be touching nfs for any reason. From output provided, I suspect another try would be a waste of time; but, never say never.

OT

You may want to investigate then why the files provided by systemd are missing on your system:

ich@laptopneu:~> LANG=C zypper se -sif /etc/systemd/system.conf
Loading repository data...
Reading installed packages...

S  | Name    | Type    | Version   | Arch   | Repository
---+---------+---------+-----------+--------+-----------
i  | systemd | package | 256.4-2.1 | x86_64 | OSS
ich@laptopneu:~>

Even external search tools (not provided by openSUSE) lists this file as content of the actual systemd package (provided by openSUSE).

Because those files are not provided anymore by systemd.

You may want to read what “ghost” file in RPM is.
