mounted external drive to /tmp

So, this was a bit dumb of me but I set a mount point of /tmp to an external HD when I formatted it, and now I am unable to boot. No, correction: as I was typing this my laptop did actually boot up, but it took 20 minutes. How do I fix this? Thanks.

Do you want a separate /tmp mountpoint? If not, get rid of that in
/etc/fstab (I"m hoping that still works), or maybe better yet go into
Partitioner (via Yast) and see if you can delete that mountpoint from
there so it updates everything properly, wherever “everything” is.

Good luck.

That worked, thanks. Yast wasn’t working either. But, everything seems functional now.

I’m glad to hear it.

You may want to be sure that your default /tmp mount is setup, in case
there was one before. I know some systems setup /tmp with a tmpfs setup,
and while that may not be required, having it back to the default will
probably only help you. On the other hand, if the system easily let you
take over that mount point, perhaps there was nothing there before; I do
not yet have a Leap 15 system setup to compare, but I’ll remedy that shortly.

Good luck.
