Motorola iDEN as a mass storage device ?

Hi.

The phone is perfectly set to see my 2GB SD card and use it as a mass storage device so not telephoe memory is used.

# tail -s 3 -f /var/log/messages displays the following:

but i don see any sdb1 or sdXX to be able to mount it, or maybe I have some missing libraries ?

Any advice will be very appreciated

Kind Regards

Luis

PS. Works perfectly on WinXP

If it has a recognised filesystem like FAT32, it should be automounted at /media/<label of partition>. You may have to do more preparation work it is something like NTFS. Sorry, somebody else will know more about this, I don’t have any NTFS portable storage devices.

That is something I don’t understand. All my USB Mem sticks and my SD flash cards are formatted in FAT16 and FAT32 and they are readable/writable, The MicroSD inside my phone can be mounted (only read access BTW) in my box under the following parameter:

Mount Point: /Media/disk
File System: vfat (FAT32)
Mount Options: ro nosuid nodev uid=1000 fmask=0022 dmask=0022 codepage=cp437 iocharset=iso8859-1 utf8 flush

I guess the "ro"option means read-onlyand probably this can be changed to “rw” Im not so sure if this could bbrake something, I’m not to savvy in linux (just a basic user) but I have the feeling that reformatting the MSD could be of some help, except that I dont know if gParted should be the solution.

The strange thing is that the phone’s OS is a linux based system… I don’t understand why linux is not recognicin another linux device…

Thanks in advance and kind Regards

Luis

I’m confused… was that last post an answer or a confirmation that it works,
but only read-only?

Same person, different accounts.

Is the microSD formatted? Can the phone see it?

Have you power cycled the phone since you installed the uSD card?

The log entry you posted shows the system seeing the phone, but not
recognizing any devices as available. Again, try turning phone completely
off, then back on. Often this fixes this problem.

I apologize, but I was never notified by email… most probabily 'cause I did not suscribe to my own post… sorry

The answear is No… it does not work!. It was possible to read it when I did a lot of hacks and installed a lot of Bluez tools… and all the work was made in the command line… * Icould scan the device, but could never touch anything*… that was my closest approach and I had to quit due to my own work.

Yes!, I have already explained that in another post where I was using a different machine and that had my old account. Sorry if that bothers you.

I will answear in the same order.
Yes, it is formatted. The phone can see my machine only if I use bluetooth but I cannot transfer files from my Desktop/laptop to my phone, however, “sometimes” (don’t know why) I can transfer files from my phone to my Desktop/laptop.

I don’t understand what you mean by “power Cycled”… sorry

Turning my telephone on/off does not help any.

Right now I’m using OS 11.1 and I have the same behavior with the cable. I’ve not tried bluetooth 'case there is something wrong with the adapter. I think it has some conflicts with the new libraires… However I can see it and I can pinn each other… but no way to transfer, … Ive tried this with GNOME 2.24 and KDE 4.1 and the results are very similar… I have an integrated (PCI) SD reader/writer in my desktop, and so far that’s the only way to copy/cut/paste files.
If I have any other approach, I’ll let you know.

Kind regards

Luis
