First of all. This post is mostly written to share my humble opinion on current state of openSUSE 11.
I’m long time suse/opensuse user…But now I think hard about switching to something else (Ubuntu;).
C’mon. I lived quite peacefully with 10.0/1/2/3 though there was some package management problems. For me that was fully acceptable, because I installed all needed software only once. But now, whith openSUSE 11 I’m freaking out.
gcalctool doesn’t work, there is bug report on this, but still you did nothing with that
it’s second time you (developers) broke xorg-x11-drivers/server which couses serious performance problems on Intel GPU, and after last update I can’t downgrade! That is unacceptable for me.
gpk-update-icon works on one desktop, but doesn’t on other whith same software/package configuration. Hardware have nothing to do with that. Really!
Same situation with resupplet.
In two days I’m getting new hardware from my company, gues what I will install…
Well, if you are looking for a new adventure… by all means. I’m sure you will live care free there
Other than that the issues you mention are being addressed or a non-issues really.
As I’ve read the workaround it to set the interface language for gcalctool to English, they are working on the fix…

You CAN downgrade back to the xorg video drives .2 version found on the DVD (don’t have the exact version for you here), I’ve done so without issue.
Also there are two threads here giving the solution by applying options in the xorg.conf. Problem solved.

Not having these issues… in the meantime you can just use zypper or YaST to get the updates for you?
Anyway… It’s good you tried to see if you could (easily) solve these issues by posting them here.
