Today YaST Software Management notified me that 2717 packages are tagged for update. Is that serious? Is that risky? Or is it a genuine tribute to the diligence of the terrific OpenSUSE Team?
Well I have a technical question , got a lot of temporary unavailable messages for the Tumbleweed repo , in the end everything got updated but it took a very long time to do so. Is there a known problem ?
Yes, I saw it too. It happens every now and then, may be due to large download size the mirrors are overloaded now. There is usually nothing we can do on our side and you can only try a different mirror. But most likely it will fix itself in a couple of hours or days.
I got them this morning on two (out of three) systems (and they were temporary) for a Leap 15.6 Update. Thus it seems that some system has problems answering all requests.
Python 3.13 as primary python interpreter. /usr/bin/python3 will be
switched to version 3.13. This will require a rather large Tumbleweed
rebuild to ensure the python3-* symbols move to the correct packages.
I kept getting loot of those & kept entering r which worked. But when I got distracted and let it do it’ stuff if ended up aborting. Hopefully it won’t have made any changes and broken my system. Guess I should try again later when it might be less busy?
in my case it’s not only updates/new 2700 packages, it’s 4194 packages (including 180 new python packages) .
Here, the download also stopped (after 554 packages). I have restarted zypper dup (the old files are in the cache). It goes forward stepwise.
Update: the “monster package update” worked fine.
After downloading all packages there were conflicts with 6 packages but this could be directly “fixed” by zypper.
I am used to updates of not more than about 100 packages at most. so I wondered if an update of more than 2700 packages was an error, Obviously not. Many thanks.
In the meantime, I have completed the update successfully in spite of the frequent download interruptions All’s well.
For some this may be a step backwards. I’m beginning to think I shot myself in the foot by migrating to TW from Leap. But isn’t Leap being discontinued this year?
I have no idea where you get this nonsense. Next time please show some source (URL). Leap 16 is happening in Alpha stage already and will be released this year
