Monitor shuts off on boot?

Help!!!, I am a newbie so be kind. I have just loaded openSuse 10.3, all went well including all updates etc. When I rebooted, the program loaded and cycled through the boot series, then shut off my monitor. I tried safemode and got logged on but was stuck at the prompt? I don’t know what to enter!! Anyway my main issue is why the monitor shuts off. It is a fairly new LG LCD, the graphics card is DVI output. The hardware profile identified the card. Can anyone help???

Sounds like the monitor is being set to a mode it doesn’t like.

Try booting into text only mode (referred to as ‘runlevel 3’) by pressing the
digit ‘3’ when at the grub boot selector screen (where you see opensuse…,
failsafe… etc) before the system begins booting linux.

This will bring the system up into ‘text’ mode, where you can log in as root,
and run the ‘SaX2 -r’ command to rebuild the Xwindows video modes.

Afterwards, I suppose it’s conceptually easiest to reboot {shudder}, or you
could type ‘telinit 5’ to shift to runlevel 5 (GUI Mode)

{chuckle} gooey mode. hee hee!
