As an ancient subscriber who uses computers as tool to do work and not a hacker, I confess I am often guilty of what I understand has been referred to as “Necroposting,” for which I apologise.
The reasons are often because I am revisiting a post of my own in which the same problems I had considered before have recurred and I cannot remember what I did on which machine or when.
When I search my own posts this yield mixed results because the thread may have wandered well off topic and many go back ten years or more.
My conclusion on reading the comments on closing posts automatically, is that I shall not lose much, if anything from the loss of historic data. Much that interests me has been superseded by the ever accelerating changes in the technology.
As advised I would be better to ask new well presented questions. I am trying to keep this in mind, at the risk of being told I had already asked the question before and I should know this!
I therefore support the proposed change.
I would appreciate at some point an explanation of the criteria used for closing threads as it does seem some hardware questions remain relevant several years on. For example my IBM servers date from 2013. Not long ago I upgraded them to include NVMe drives but the machines are sound but still provoke questions.
Best wishes to all the Mods for their excellent work and the support they give.
