missing shutdown dialogbutton KDE3

hi

I use Gnome as my default desktop but have KDE3 installed to run KDE software on Gnome.
Because Suse-users are mostly KDE users I checked the KDE to see why.

I noticed good reasons to stick to Gnome
but also noticed I cannot shutdown, restart or suspend from the KDE, there are no buttons on the menu for this, I can only change user and use Gnome to shutdown, restart or suspend. I checked my laptop and noticed the same problem.
Both computers have installed suse 11.1 Gnome2.24 and KDE3. (one user) default
How can I add a shutdownmenu? I cannot find other users with this problem on the forum.

I found on ubuntuforum where the same problem exists to change kdm to gdm, my default is gdm and changing it does not add the shutdownbutton
Also I found in the systemconfig that everybody (all users) can shutdown, so this is OK.
what can I do to add the shutdown to the menu.

I’m not on my KDE machine so can’t verify, but isn’t the button you seek a widget? Look at the “add a widget” menu and see if it’s there, and add it if it is.

It is Logout (usually the bottom item) on the menu or if you want a actual real button I think that can be added to the tool bar.

Yes

It was changing from gdm to kdm that added the shutdown options: suspend (ram and disk) Restart and Shutdown.
It worked on both machines and both Gnome and KDE are OK

for one with the same problem:
Yast, System, /etc/sysconfig-editor,
Desktop, Displaymanager, DISPLAYMANAGER,
change the value in on the right.
Restart your computer

Hi,
I have the same / an similar problem with openSUSE and KDE 4.3.5 (in Gnome 2.28.2 there is a shutdown dialog) but the switching to kdm seems not to work anymore.
Still no button for logout (not at the kickoff menu (“leave”), not at the panel (widget)).

Any idea why?

Greetings pistazienfresser

To be precisely: I switched to kdm and turned the options on: this on gets me a “turn of the computer” button in KDE (with countdown in the dialog) but the shutdown botton in Gnome just makes a logoff (not a shutdown).
Har, har!:sarcastic:
