Missing screensavers in 11.3

Hi there. Trivial issue: I run a molecular biology lab and we like to run the “Molecule” GL screensaver in order to look cool (I know it doesn’t actually save screens, and it wastes energy, but you know…). I’m about to install Opensuse 11.3 on all 24 of our laptops and I find that the number of GL screensavers installed as standard is greatly reduced from previous Opensuse releases. Any idea where I can get the “Molecule” and other screensavers?

I.m running KDE and have the following relevant packages installed:

kdeartwork4-screensaver
xscreensaver
xscreensaver-data
xscreensaver-data-extra
gnome-screensaver
gnome-screensaver-extra

This apparently gives me just 8 GL screensavers - there used to be a great many more?

Thanks.

Indeed - in KDE it does appear that a good deal of xscreensaver support has been removed. kxsrun and ksxconfig were apps that wrapped around an xscreensaver app for native KDE support, however they appear to no longer be present.

Thanks. Actually - I said it was trivial, but I’ve since realized that everyone in the lab is going to kill me next week if they can’t have their favourite screensaver any more. Does anyone know a workaround for this?

Hello mdt26a,

Take a look at this thread: xscreensaver support for KDE missing: kxsrun and kxsconfig no longer available.
The third post has a workaround.

I haven’t tried it so I don’t know if it works.

Good luck!
