missing libraries when installing thunderbird 2

Hi,

I have downloadad and untared the file thunderbird-2.0.0.22.tar but when starting it fails to find libraries such as libmozjs.so and libstdc++.so.5. Does anyone know where I can find and how to install them?

Many thanks

Why are you downloading TB from mozilla.com? openSUSE provides Thunderbird in the standard OSS repo.

just use YaST, so much simpler!!

Menu > System > Yast > Software Management > [wait for it to
initialize] > [in search box type] thunderbird > [on right side find
and click] Mozilla Thunderbird [and] Mozilla Thunderbird-translations
[JUST those two]> [click] Accept > [wait for finish]

done!

then read about adding programs, software updating and etc in:
http://en.opensuse.org/Concepts and

As others already told you, installing from /oss (or /mozilla) repo is the
easiest way to have Thunderbird in openSUSE.

There are some exceptions, though, i.e., if using an old suse release and no
repo available for your system.

OTOH, while using opensuse packages, extensions such “Lighting” have to be
installed also from opensuse repos because using the one available from
Mozilla site does not work.

As for the error you are getting, open a terminal and run from there:

thunderbird

Put here the output.
