Missing Gui during Install

Hi Folks!

I wanted to instal Opensuse Leap via Net-Install today.
But there was no Gui like in all the tutorials on youtube.
Just a BIOS-ish screen.

I wondered and tried Tumbleweed as well.
Same problem: no GUI.

Is this a bug or is something wrong with my machine?

Very likely one of two things:

  • Your PC is newer than support is provided for by 15.3, or
*]You have hardware that requires special handling that the installer isn’t doing
Start by reading this primer and following its instruction to use nomodeset to begin the installer. If this isn’t sufficient, report back here your PC make and specific model. Optionally, try Tumbleweed, which supports newer hardware than 15.3.

Thanks for the fast reply.
Will try it right away when I’m home.
Just one thing that came into my mind.

Some time ago, maybe 5y, I installed Debian on my laptop (a different one)…
It just was not possible.
Here is what did the trick (as far as I recall)
I needed to switch the uefi off in my BIOS and just let legacy active.
Is such a behavior/problem known to opensuse leap or tumbleweed?

Both TW and Leap can be installed in either Legacy or UEFI mode. Which type you get depends on whether you boot the installer in UEFI or Legacy mode. When you boot in Legacy mode, the initial boot screen has a row of F# menu options at the bottom that is absent when booting in UEFI mode. Ultimately, UEFI mode works out better for most people, especially those who also have Windows 10+ installed.

It did not help
Is it possible to run the live DVD an install from there?

Yes, you can create a USB stick with the Offline Image and boot from that.

If booting work, you can try installing.

Can you share the type of laptop you have?

The Install from Offline-disk worked.
Unfortunatelly other obstacles crossed my way…
I will open a new thread for that.

To complete this thread on the other hand:
Intel Graphics 4600 is in my Machine.
I wonder why this is a problem for the netinstall… strange

almost forgot!
thank you all for your help!
I appreciate it!
