Hello,
I did a Leap 15.5 fresh install from ISO DVD (checksumed), with Gnome DE : all worked fine. Then I updated to 15.6 following official instructions (check repos to use $releaserver, init 3, zypper --releasever=15.6 refresh, zypper --releasever=15.6 dup, reboot). No error during process, system and DE booted as expected.
However, I ran into an graphical issue similar to Gnome window does not display fonts and icons after upgrading to 15.6 : gnome-control-center, nautilus, gnome-calculator open but displaying no text or icon (just the frames, some images and hover coloring when passing on an invisible option).
I don’t get any useful information when running theses gnome utilities in CLI nor querying the system journal. I think some packages are missing but not sure.
I already try theses actions :
install typelib-1_0-Nautilus-4_0
check install and activation of gnome-extensions
force upgrade of gnome patterns, gnome-control-center package, remove and re-install gnome-extensions
(in init 3 context) remove pattern gnome and gnome*, remove gnome*, install pattern gnome* : this fully removed gnome DE and leads to basic minimal DE then reinstall it but the graphical issue was still here.
Any idea ? Any output that could be useful for you to diagnose ?
I first tried to install 15.6 directly, of course (I should have mentioned) but this failed with multiple issues (error in unpacking filesystem package with cpio symlink failed / invalid argument and other similar ones).
The device isn’t 16.0 compatible (x86_64_v1) so the plan is to move to Slowroll next year.
Then, IMO, it would still be better to attack the problems with installing the supported 15.6 (with help from the forum) then starting with an unsupported 15.5.
OK, thank you @hcvv
I opened an other topic that focus on 15.6 installation.
But if someone has an idea to repair the updated one here, I’m interested too
Finally, I managed to do a new install with 15.6 directly. But I got the same graphical issue. I didn’t find the solution …
As the device user did not mind about the DE, I switch it to KDE Plasma : easy workaround, no bug with this one.
