I have been using OpenSuse 11.1 (gnome) for a few weeks with smooth sailing. Out of the blue my desktop disappeared. I shut the computer off on Friday night, and when it started up on Monday there were no icons or background. I logged off, then on as a different user, rebooted, did a repair install, all with no success. I then tried to open a file manager to review some configuration files, but couldn’t find a single one that would work. I can open a terminal, Gimp, OpenOffice, Yast, but not VirtualBox, any file managers, and others. Any ideas? Does anyone know what configuration files would be involved or how to resolve this. I searched the forum and google but was not successful. Thanks in advance!
