Hi all,
I install almost all of my servers with opensuse. I just installed opensuse 13.2, and noticed that nginx is missing in it, which really surprised me: nginx - https://software.opensuse.org/package/nginx
Then I found it here https://en.opensuse.org/Additional_package_repositories#Other_HTTP_Servers. So it looks like support for it has been removed, officially. Has this been communicated to the community? I’m wondering what other surprises I may spot.

It is in the “server:http” repo, clearly shown in your link. 13.2
section, under “unstable”. Don’t heed the name, it doesn’t exactly means
what it reads.

Where do you read that information from?
In that link I only see this line: «openSUSE Build Service Repository
for other HTTP servers (Nginx, Lighttpd, …)»
No mention of it being “officially removed”.

It was broken and had no maintainer for months. Someone offered to step up.

So, that mailing list, shows that the support was removed, just as I suspected, due to a lack of a maintainer.
I know it’s in that repo, I linked it… but that wasn’t the case prior to 13.2. That repo is unofficial, right?

Not quite, because it also shows that a new maintainer appeared.

The answer is not a clear “yes/no” 
Strictly speaking, only the oss and non-oss repos are official. However,
this is a community distro, many “official” packages are maintained by
the community and not by SUSE staff; thus if a package appears in a repo
outside of those two, doesn’t mean much.
Sometimes the package appears first in a community repo, it is tested
there, and later it appears on the “official” repo, by the same
maintainer (and sometimes this is a staffer, sometimes not).
The repos you have to avoid, with some exceptions, are “home” repos,
because it can be simply experiments from someone. That “someone” has to
tell you that it’s alright to install them.

Yeah, I have always avoided home repos for that exact same reason you have given. I’ll give the http repo a look, and see how it does.

I haven’t avoided home repos but I have noted whose tend to be reliable and whose not.
