Mirror display? openSUSE 11.3/ Nvidia

I have openSUSE11.3 KDE with the latest Nvidia binary from the Nvidia repo.
I have two monitors configured and working more or less.
If I configure for separate displays the secondary display has a X window with an x for a cursor. It doesn’t look like that configuration is happy. If I configure for twinview I have one continuous desktop spread across two monitors. I have been using nvidia-settings to configure the displays.

What I want is for the right display to mirror the left display. How can I or can I get it to mirror? Looking in Personal Settings (Configure Desktop) doesn’t show any configuration there for mirroring.

You mean like nvidia’s clone mode mostly used with projectors or TVs in windows?
AFAIK there’s no such option in nvidia-settings, I think you’ll have to configure xorg.conf (or its parts in xorg.conf.d if you will) by hand. This was doable when I started using two monitors, in the oS 10.x era…
I do remember some old posts by oldcpu using the vga port in a laptop for projector presentation, he used the commandline xrandr for that I think, but again AFAIK nvidia does not support the RandR extension - at least that’s what I’ve read somewhere.

Yea Clone was what I was thinking of and you used to do it with the configuration file. As much as xorg things are in flux it may not be possible to do currently. Without a blow by blow I doubt I could get it going. I need to be able to enable it and disable it easily as well.

So I am thinking that editing the xorg.conf is the way to deal with this and using to good old methods still work and Google is my friend on finding the right configuration on this?

I was able to configure it in nvidia-settings. It’s Clones in the drop-down menu for position. You have to select twinview and Clones.

I have to systems set up and running like this now. So my problem is solved.

Here is how I have it set up so I can watch stuff in mplayer/smplayer from one of the computers while I am on my treadmill. I need a good wireless mouse with some really good range now.

Quite a setup you have there. I notice four monitors, how are they rigged? Also, the cloned displays have different frequencies/resolutions or they have to be the same? Usually the TV has lower res, and may not work on it’s native res on the VGA port, so it gets squashed at 1024 x 768 or something. I have this issue with a phillips HT TV (not full HD).

Oh, I’m going senile… I have seen this and forgot about it completely - although I never used it, so perhaps I’m not that far gone. :slight_smile:

I haven’t tried it with different resolutions on the current set up but on a set up I had in the distant past with a Mandriva install I had to have matching resolutions and the Monitor and TV had to match resolutions when cloned. On my current 11.4 install When I had a smaller secondary monitor with a lower resolution on the system it was able to run at different resolutions with two separate x sessions and as one desktop spread across two displays. I never tried it cloned. The current set up have a HD TV/monitor so the resolutions do match.

It’s three computers and 4 monitors. I have a KVM and switch between systems. Two openSUSE systems and a Windows 7 64 system that runs my software defined amateur radio. The Windows system isn’t set up as cloned but is a desktop spread across two displays. It’s also an ATI graphics adapter and the Linux boxes run Nvidia.
