Miro troubles

Hi,

This is what I get when I run miro:

ERROR:dbus.proxies:Introspect error on :1.4:/org/participatoryculture/dtv/OneTime: dbus.exceptions.DBusException: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.

/usr/bin/miro: line 27: 19974 Segmentation fault MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME=/usr/lib/xulrunner-1.9.1 LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib/xulrunner-1.9.1 miro.real “$@”

Please help.

Thanks in advance

What version of FFox?

Its 3.5.4

If it helps, I have just updated to KDE 4.4 and after updating, tried to install Miro from Yast first and, when it didnt work, tried to install from one-click

Better post result of:

zypper lr -d

it is always good to try a google on the error, have a look:
http://www.google.com/search?q=miro+linux+“dbus.proxies%3AIntrospect+error+on”

which of those four things do you think happened, and why?

are you sure the remote application is alive?

have you installed or changed the setup of your system’s security
(AppArmor, or whatever)?

is your network healthy?

i installed Miro months ago and have so far found the downloads to
be excruciatingly slow!! so much so that i used it so little i forgot
i had it, or why i hadn’t used it…

i just NOW clicked it to life and tried to watch a video…minutes
later it had 44 minutes of download time on a “The Basics of Miro”
video, the SAME five minute video i can watch at
http://www.getmiro.com/ without waiting…

so, good luck!

is there a Miro forum? you might need to be there…

palladium

I did google it only to find everything that was suggested right in order. As for the error, I am a non-technical person so I am not really sure but I think its the first one "
> the remote application did not send a reply"
because the message came after a long time since I entered the command. The netrwork was working which I had checked when I got the message.

About Miro : Well, I am a bit of a software junkie. That combined with my love for TV got me interested in Miro. Currently I use feed in my torrent application (qbittorrent in case you are interested) to donwload the TV episodes.

Sorry for late reply, I didnt have my system with me when I got your message

Here’s the result for my zypper command :

I’m not sure of the value of repo #5? I would remove it unless you know why it’s there and know how to manage it

Repo #1 does not match it’s counterpart repo #6
Assuming you have repo #6 to get kde4.4?

The correct repo is
Index of /repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Community/openSUSE_11.2_KDE4_Factory_Desktop

You must use the switcher on the kde4 repos. Like this:
ImageBam - Fast, Free Image Hosting and Photo Sharing

And finally on Packman:
http://tinyurl.com/yejwull

Once you have done that, we can work on the issue if it remains.

I think it has improved, still not working though. I got this error message:
Image - TinyPic - Free Image Hosting, Photo Sharing & Video Hosting

I guess this means I have to delete some files from my / folder right?

This is the current status of my hard disk:
Image - TinyPic - Free Image Hosting, Photo Sharing & Video Hosting

Also the message I get when I enter miro in terminal:
PyNotify support disabled on your platform.

What exactly is Miro. I had a google but it didn’t tell me it was anything more than a media player.

Well you are almost right in calling it a video player, but the exciting thing I caught from their site was the internet TV function. You can schedule Miro to download the episodes through torrent by giving the rss feed of the series in Miro.
I also learnt that many people liked it from the Ubuntu forums.I am surprised that so many people have complained of having trouble running Miro in Opensuse but there seems no easy way to install it here.

Am I correct though that rss feed for torrents work in bittorrent clients?

I’m not sure many users would bother with this application. Linux users tend to stick with the right tool for the job. Not that Miro isn’t.
But you know those multi-function tools, that for Eg; where a hand held tool can be a screwdriver, a hammer, a drill… etc
They never work that well. “Jack of All Trades - Master of None” is saying used about a worker that can sort of do a bit of everything.

Are you getting where I’m coming from?

Hmm… I do agree. But one great thing that I find in Linux, and this is the primary reason I decided to switch to Linux, was that I could try various softwares, without fearing infection of my computer, and decide what works best for me. Good or Bad, I want to have the choice to run this Miro and then later reject it without compromising the stability of my system.
But yes, right now , I do use qbittorrent (I think I mentioned this in an earlier post) for the same purpose. Only thing is that it doesnt download automatically when I get a new rss feed, other than that it is working very well for me.
Yes I can live easily without Miro, but then why give up without trying.

I enjoy having discussions like these, but would it be right to continue it here or should I shift the discussion on another forum?

I prefer
Azureus, now called Vuze : Plugin Details for RSS Feed Scanner

I have tried Vuze, not to mention Ktorrent and many other torrent clients, before zeroing in on qbittorrent. For some reason I got better speed with the later than Vuze. Also qbittorrent gave an option to download file in sequential order which made it easier for me to preview the file, in fact, I watch the video even while the file is being downloaded. If Vuze has this option then its not easy to find.

Going back to your error
It’s a little beyond me
But you do seem to have enough space

In you /home/user hidden files do you see a folder .miro
If it’s there, I would delete it and run miro again from a terminal

caf4926 wrote:

actually i would suggest the OP do as i just did:

-open YaST
-go to Software Management
-search on miro
-right click miro
-select the trash can icon (to delete it)
-click Accept

you will recover a lot of disk space AND you can always try it again,
in six months it might work better…

i bet’cha when they get enough folks ‘hooked’ on how easy it is to
download while you sleep and watch TV when/where you want…well,
when they get enough of those folks who cannot figure out how to do
that without Miro there will suddenly be a small monthly service
charge, for the convenience provided…

by the way, i installed it with YaST and worked, but downloaded like a
turtle, a drunk and stumbling two legged turtle on crutches…and,
blind…

palladium

rotfl!

That was my experience with Vuze…on second thought, even that was not this bad

Nope… same error. I give up.>:( Besides from palladium’s experience,it seems its just not worth it. But just to experience Miro, I have decided to install it in windows in another system. Will let you know my experience.

Thank you for your help.
