miro application won't start

Hello all,

I just installed the miro internet tv application using yast on my openSUSE 11.2 and I cannot start it.

Running the miro application from console gives me the following output:

Has anybody experienced this kind of problem? Is it a workaround for this?

You’re missing the package ‘python-notify’, that’s one thing. Is ‘python-gstreamer’ installed?

How did you install MIRO? From their website, or from the Packman repo? Mine is from the Packman repo, it runs fine, like it should.

I installed it using yast from packman repos.

I’ll install the python-notify and see if it works.

Thanks!

It’s not working even after I installed python-notify:

now the output is:

I also do have installed python-gstreamer_0-10

I mean time I saw that the same error stopped me to start Pidgin.
After some search on the net I found this:

Suse 11.2 Pidgin startup error: gst_stream_volume_format_get_type — Tech Talk With Hawke

So downgrading the gstreamer solved both the miro and pidgin errors.

Maybe this helps others too.

Same problem here. Miro worked fine for a week or so. Now, Miro (Version 3.0.2) wouldn’t launch. However, all other applications work fine. When I double-left-click on the Miro icon or right-click and select “open”, I’ll get the Window’s “hour glass icon” for a few seconds, then that disappears and nothing happens.

I right-clicked on “Properties” and left-click “Find Target” and tried to start it from there but that didn’t work either.

I checked the “Task Manager” and I see Miro.exe running under the “Processes”. So, it seems that there is something preventing the interface window from appearing. I ended Miro.exe and tried to relaunch Miro but that didn’t work. Miro.exe came back under “Processes”.

I did a Windows Update as there were five updates that I needed to download so now it’s current. Rebooted. Still, the relaunch didn’t work.

Uninstall and reinstall. First I used the uninstall icon that came with Miro, then I reinstalled the same version. No luck. Then I used Revo Uninstaller and removed the traces of Miro. Reinstalled…no luck.

I cleaned up my computer using CCleaner and Advanced Windows Care. No help. Ran Trend Micro…no significant viruses.

I tried downloading a brand new application (Hulu Desktop) to see if it would work and it did but I really want to get Miro working again. I’m not real computer literate but know enough to get myself into trouble. So any other ideas from anybody?

Walt

Ok I’m really confused are you talking about Windows???

You do know this is a Linux site??

Mea Culpa…as you can see I’m really confused. You wouldn’t happen to know where I could go to get help for this problem on my Windows XP, would you?

Sorry…administrator, please remove my posts.

I installed python-notify, then the good, bad and ugly gstreamer plugins, then my Miro started launching. But it’s having problems playing any hd quicktime files…I’ll post back if I find it…any suggestions?

Yes had the same problem and this solution works for me too

Hi,

Installing Miro here, on 11.2. Same problem… didn’t work. On command line I get:

I click on the suggested link to on downgrading the gstreamer but it seems is not existent any more.

Any one can tell me how can I downgrade it and if doing so it will not affect any other app?

thx
