I’m sorry but I cannot match your thread’s title to the rest of what you are writing. What are you compiling a custom kernel for? That’s not necessary.
For the Networkmanager: try wicd (can be found through webpin software search via opensuse.org). Networkmanager failed me a couple of times.
And then this: are you aware of the fact that if you run alpha or beta versions, you’re likely gonna end up with trouble like this? From the way you’ve put things in your post, there’s not much experience showing. If you’re a starting user please start with a stable release instead of executing solutions you don’t understand.
Wow, I thought thing were bad.
This was a test post to see what the response would be, all I can say is my fears were realised.
I am a very experienced user who has been browsing this forum for years and seeing the slow change in the responses to posts.
What about asking follow up questions or asking for clearer questions not jumping to conclusions.

With 4 posts you don’t seem to have had much involvement in the forum considering the long time you profess to have been browsing these forums. Why start a topic that is designed to aggravate other members? I’m closing this thread as it serves no use whatsoever.
