migrated to 11.3; now shutdown freezes up

Yesterday I migrated from 11.0 to 11.3 (32-bit version) and began customizing personal desktop settings once everything seemed to be working OK. Today I continued customizing the personal desktop settings. Now everything freezes up during shutdown.

The screen goes blank with the arrow pointer frozen in place. Hitting enter or ctrl-alt-esc has no effect. One time, I walked away for 30 minutes to see if it would resolve itself, but there was no effect.

I saw someone is having a similar problem with the 64-bit version, but there were no responses. Where do I go from here?

TIA,
Mark Z.

New install?

But post the move from 11 to 11.3 everything was OK - including shutdown?
Did you run all the updates? and was it still OK then

began customizing - continued customizing
So much going on and depending on your answers to the above and just what you mean by ‘customizing’…It’s rather difficult to pin it down.

Also, is it the same for reboot and shutdown?
|What happens if you logout to the login screen and use the shutdown/reboot from there?

Installed 11.3 over 11.0. Everything was OK, including shutdown.

Ran all the updates, and it was still OK.

Didn’t try that. However things are back to normal.

There was some sort of glitch with KDE’s default Desktop Plasma Workspace. Changing the Activity in the Desktop Settings to Folder View got rid of the glitch. Now shutdown, logout, and reboot all work normally. This is OK by me since I prefer the folder view.

OK
