Microsoft will be showing some new hardware on the German computer show Cebit.
Below is a list of the new hardware articles they’ll be showing.
First is a new notebook specially designed for seniors who can’t get used to today’s computer keyboards, so they put in a comfortable typewriter keyboard which they’re used to.
As the “Microsoft Notebook for the Age-Challenged Citizen” isn’t designed to be used for anything else but writing a letter every now and then and perhaps a little web surfing, it comes with a cut-down version of Windows 98 named “Windows 68”. The name derives from the age of the group it’s targeted at. The notebook also comes with a convenient notebook case.

Another notebook innovation from Microsoft is targeted at the people which don’t like the notebooks being mostly made of plastic nowadays. It therefore comes in an elegant, rustic wood case which will integrate seamlessly with any good wood furniture where any plastic notebooks would stick out like a sore thumb. The “Microsoft Notebook Elegance 3000” also comes with a comfortable typewriter keyboard and a convenient LP player at the top to play all your LPs. A special LP version of Windows will be avaiable for this.

Microsoft will also showcase their new Windows Mobile 7 mobile, which is intended to be a direct competition to Apple’s iPhone. As you can see, they copied the iPhone’s UI pretty well (copying is what they’re good at, after all), so people switching from the iPhone should not have any problems finding their way around. However, the form of the mobile still leaves room for improvement. A Microsoft representee commented on this: “We think that Apple’s iPhone is much too flimsy, so we wanted to create something more solid.”

Going along their new line of products for seniors, they are also showing a new mobile for seniors. Any seniors who only get confused from todays keypad-equipped mobiles and wished back the old, trusty dial wheels found can take a deep breath now, as the new “Microsoft Mobile for Age-Challenged Citizens” comes equipped just with that old, trusty dial wheel. The mobile will be offered exclusively by AT&T.
