Microsoft Tabs Jerry Seinfeld for $300M Ad Campaign

Microsoft Tabs Jerry Seinfeld for $300M Ad Campaign

It doesn’t sound very exciting, although it is hard to imagine it will be as lame as their Mojave ‘Experiment’.

Funny thing is…Seinfeld was a Mac user.

Macenstein | Why Jerry Seinfeld will be the perfect Windows Vista pitch man

I guess money does talk.

I’d promote Vista too for 300 million (Euros).

Heck, I’d declare it to be the best OS in the world then laugh my ears off while drinking martinis on my own newly bought island on the caribbean.

Rofl brilliant, talking about selling out. I’ve actually never liked Mac’s just a preference thing but yeah if I was a Mac user and was offered to promote another OS for that price I would do it in a hear beat :stuck_out_tongue:

Just curious would you be using Suse on that island? I know I would.

I’d have two of each, like Noah :stuck_out_tongue:

Okay, actually it’s 10M for Seinfeld. Leaves 290M of budget for the marketing campaign. Maybe this includes the 100M “Buying SLES vouchers from Novell”

Joy of Tech Comic:Steve Jobs emails Jerry Seinfeld.

If SJ had a sense of humor, he’d have the nerdy and hapless PC guy in the Apple ads do a ‘George Costanza’ impersonation. “Jerry! Your new computer doesn’t work!”

The first ad is screening. Very odd. You can see it here:

Yea, I watched that, and my reaction was essentially, “WTF?”.

I ended up confused and a little scared :?

Anyone else here know what is supposed to be going on?

The tv ad I liked was the mac and windows with the beautiful girl as linux. Only caught it once, needs to run again.

Not sure PC Mac Linux videos ever ran on TV. You can find all three here. They are listed under Novell BrainShare Videos 2007 in the Other Marketing Videos section.

Not sure this will help with that scared feeling but John Dvorak thinks he figured it out:

Scenario: Two guys meet in a shoe store. The one guys offers a churro to the other—an obvious phallic symbol, possibly a code word. The guy refuses. So the guy with the churro starts to massage the other guy’s foot, and asks about what he’s feeling. The guy who relented at first says a definite code word: “leather.” The two look furtively at each other for an uncomfortably long time. They scene is just short of a wink taking place. One mentions “showering” with clothes on. The next thing you know the twosome, now each holding rigid churros, walk off together. One asks the other to adjust his underwear as a “sign.” Now if this isn’t some sadomasochistic, kinky pickup scene then what’s the point? There is too much symbolism and footsy for this to be anything other than a tryst waiting to happen. Perhaps it is a parody of the “Mac versus PC” ads, which may have homoerotic overtones that nobody has considered, and this is Micrsoft’s way of asking, “What’s with those two guys, anyway?”

I’m just waiting for those edible computers.

I saw the commercial last night and was like WTF.
That was the ****ty ad I’ve ever seen. Microsoft is being just stupid now. From Vista , then the Mojave project now this ****ty ad with Sein Field. Microsoft is going to ruin Sein Field if he keeps doing Ad’s like that for Microsoft.

The commercial Sein Field did with HP during the time of Bee movie was great. WTF Microsoft!

Apparently the advert is working because it sure seems to have a lot of people talking about it. I’m with Chrysantine. If they paid me so much money, I’d be happy to go on national/international TV and claim how much I loved Microsoft.

Viral marketing, and obviously good viral marketing. Heck, the discussion here made me go to youtube and watch it.

So if Windows becomes soft and chewy, do people come up with the blue v***** of death?

The second ad is out. There’s detailed analysis of both on Tom’s Daily that just boggles the imagination if that what the ads are really all about. This is supposed to sell software?!
