Microsoft .docx

Is there any way to convert these without having to load Windows?

I just cannot afford their rubbish for occasional use! :’(

Libreoffice should be able to open them.
And it should be installed by default.

You haven’t specified the target of what you want to convert to. As suggested by others, Libre-Office is probably your
friend. Alternatively there are docx->html converters.

Of the MS Office applications, I think Word is the best. But I still loathe it :).

I also don’t use Libre-Office, but those I know who do like it very much.

LibreOffice or OpenOffice can open most of them - there may be some
translation issues, but yes.

You can also upload them to Google Docs and they’ll be converted - also
occasionally with conversion errors, but the content IME is generally
intact.
