I have connected a microphone on my sound card , but while testing it I cannot hear the sound from the speakers.When I use it in windows xp it works fine but it doesn’t seem to work in suse 10.0. I tried to fix it with “kmix” but I didn’t manage anything. Any ideas? Thank you

First, please test that your basic sound is working. You can do that by copying and pasting the following into a konsole: speaker-test -c2 -l5 -twavand you should hear a lady’s voice saying ‘FRONT LEFT’,‘FRONT RIGHT’ five times.
If that gives audio, then check your microphone basic functionality with “arecord”. You can run arecord as follows, typing in a kde konsole: arecord -d 10 myrecording.wav where “-d 10” specifies a 10 second recording. Record 10 seconds there and then a play back “myrecording.wav” with a nominal player. Does that work?
If it does not work, you could do screen dumps of your desktop with kmix open at the various tabs, and post the various screen dumps on an image share/paste site, and then post the URLs here, so the members on this forum can review your mixer settings, and maybe provide some suggestions to get your mic functioning.
Its also possible your sound card needs better configuring for the microphone to work. Note SuSE-10.0 is old and it is no longer supported. I suspect you will have better luck with openSUSE-11.1
The speakers are working fine, with the test I haven’t heard the voice but some kind of wave sound from each speaker at a time. I have also tried with arecord but there was no capture… I cannot see result with kmix. Its probably not so simple…
