Not sure that this is relevant to your problem, but to get my microphone working with Skype I had to do this:
Yast, Hardware, Sound, Sound Configuration, Other (bottom right of window), PulseAudio configuration, Disable " then the microphone used ALSA as its sound system. Maybe you’d then have to use alsamixer to configure the microphone.
