microphone on acer one D255 doesn't works

On my acer one D255 with opensuse tumbleweed and kde 4.8.4 the internal microphone doesn’t works, Itryed it with skype, then I triedthis , in pavucontrol unlinking left and right microphones but it doesn’t works. I cannot unlink permanently mic channels with or without “allow skype to adjust the volume for me” in skype.
could you help me?? thanks:)

maybe.

i have D255 and the mic works perfectly with Linux/openSUSE…

BUT, when i first installed openSUSE 11.4 it did not work with
Skype…because the wrong device was selected in Skype’s set up…

i did this:

Skype Main Menu > Options > Sound Devices > Microphone
when the system and skype were initially installed it was set to
“Default device (default)”

i used the spin arrow to change it to “HDA Intel, ALC272XAnalog (hw:0,0)”

hope it helps.

In my skype options is not present “HDA Intel, ALC272XAnalog (hw:0,0)” but only pulseaudio server (local) and there isn’t way to select other :frowning:

i think i just read a post of yours in another forum and you are running
Tumbleweed right?

i can’t help more: its probably a Tumbleweed or multimedia question…

the tumbleweed gurus hang out here: http://tinyurl.com/3ljwanm
and the multimedia experts here: http://tinyurl.com/4j4mtn7

BUT, i don’t know if this thread ought to be moved or answered in place…

sorry.

right

ok, How can I movethis inmultimedia? or is better to start a new post there??
ciao

i can’t answer that…pm a moderator and let them decide what is best…

you know it might be a hardware problem! maybe you mic is broke!

but i don’t know how to trouble shoot that…you might investigate how
they would do that in the multimedia directory (or other)…

maybe use a search like:
https://www.google.com/search?q=site:forums.opensuse.org+mic+doesn’t+work

maybe you will find how to test your mike, without loading kwave (etc)

What does DistroWatch write about YOU?: http://tinyurl.com/SUSEonDW

I tested my mic, with the never used windows 7 when I bought it, it works well,

tested again in linux with arecord -d 10 record.wav, found here simple and very useful :-), in dell latitude mic works in acer D255 not.

For guidance on audio, I try to help, but I typically need much more information … that which can be nominally provided by running (with one’s pc connected to the internet) the diagnostic script:

/usr/sbin/alsa-info.sh

and select the share/upload option, and then after the script is complete, take the website URL that it gives you and post it here on the forum. That will allow us to check your audio / mic config. Ensure BEFORE running the script that you have your mic setup to record best you can.

You noted you tried the arecord command and that your mic is hw:0,0. Assuming that is correct (and without script output I can not check that), did you try:

arecord -vv -f S16_LE -c 2 -D hw:0,0 new.wav

press <ctrl><c> to stop the recording.

Pay attention to ANY error messages. arecord is very good at giving error messages that can point to a problem.

Not sure that this is relevant to your problem, but to get my microphone working with Skype I had to do this:

Yast, Hardware, Sound, Sound Configuration, Other (bottom right of window), PulseAudio configuration, Disable " then the microphone used ALSA as its sound system. Maybe you’d then have to use alsamixer to configure the microphone.

Many thanks oldcpu, I’m trying to download alsa-info.sh but it results impossible now:)

Thank you magic-oldcpu, you are phenomenal!!lol!
now how I can use it with skype?

lol ! Thats good news.

The command I gave bypasses pulse audio. So it may be a matter of tuning pulse audio.

Take a look at this blog post of mine on how to use pulse audio (you need to install the application ‘pavucontrol’ as a starter) : Pulseaudio Basics for openSUSE with pavucontrol - Blogs - openSUSE Forums and toward the end of that blog article, I give an example on how to set up one’s microphone with Skype.

yep, a hope is open:)

or to not use it…

Ok, pavucontrol already installed, I had a look at “**pavucontrol Recording Tab on Primary PC **”, “Setting Up Skype in Pulseaudio”, I followed until -“I then selected the Skype ‘Make a Test Call’ selection, and while that was running I went to the pavucontrol ‘Recording Tab’. I was careful to select ‘Show’ ‘All Streams’” -but in my pavucontrol appear “skype input from” but the only selectable is “internal audio analog stereo” already selected and “monitor internal audio analog stereo”, and the mic don’t works

The bugs that plagued pulse audio in earlier days are now mostly gone. Its worth spending the time to configure. My suspicion (unless your PC is one of the minority where the hardware does not work well with pulse) is there is something inappropriate in the configuration in pavucontrol.

In ‘pavucontrol’, what are

  • your options in the configuration tab ? Do you have more than one ? What are the others ?
  • your options in the input devices tab ? [ensure you select show all input devices so as to see all devices that may need to be configured] Ensure the mic is not muted there.

A bad selection, or a muted selection there, could be the problem.

If too annoying to type, simply provide a screen shot of pavucontrol, and post on a paste such as Fast, Free Image Hosting - ImageBam and post here thumbnail or link to pix.

oook, we can try

the options are:
Analog stereo duplex
Analog stereo output
Analog stereo Input
Off

the options are:
Internal audio analog stereo:
--------port: Analog Microphone
--------------Analog input

Monitor of Internal Audio analog stereo
no ports

nothing is muted (nevertheless the icons are very strange :-)) I suppose that they are not muted becouse the level shows something and when I press the mute icon this something disappear

Many thanks, if this isn’t enough tomorrow I will post the images:-)

Can you try ‘analog stereo duplex’ ?

Analog stereo duplex is the one I tried until now, I tried also analog stereo output (where only output device works), analog stereo input (where output device don’t works and input device should works but it don’t), and off (where output and input device don’t works).
grazie, ciao, Pier

When trying them both, check carefully to ensure you do not have the mic muted in pulse audio, which will over ride any non-pulse audio settings (as we have already proven the mic works outside of pulse). Toggle OFF/ON the mic mute settings within pavucontrol so that you understand what they look like when muted, and not muted.

many thanks oldcpu,
in yast>sound configuration, pulse audio configuration is enabled in all the cases

when in pavucontrol>configuration>internal audio>profile I choose analog stereo duplex http://paste.opensuse.org/view/download/83274515in pavucontrol>input devices (show all input devices) appears 2 devices http://paste.opensuse.org/view/download/28939866 1)internal audio analog stereo, not muted, (weak activity in the level bar but not related to the real sound, if I talk it doesn’t move). 2)monitor of internal audio analog stereo, not muted; (no activity in the level bar).

as I understood, this two tests should avoid any doubt on muting the mic, may be, perhaps
I tested mic with arecord -vv -f S16_LE -c 2 new1.1.wav, mic works
I tested mic with arecord new1.2.wav, mic don’t works

when in pavucontrol>configuration>internal audio>profile I choose analog stereo output in pavucontrol>input devices (show all input devices) appears only 1 device http://paste.opensuse.org/view/download/87108949 (monitor of internal audio analog stereo), not muted (no activity in the level bar).

I tested mic with arecord -vv -f S16_LE -c 2 new2.1.wav, mic don’t works (as expected I suppose)
I tested mic with arecord new2.2.wav, mic don’t works

when in pavucontrol>configuration>internal audio>profile I choose analog stereo input in pavucontrol>input devices (show all input devices) appears 2 devices: 1)monitor of dummy output, not muted; (no activity in the level bar) 2)internal audio analog stereo, not muted, (weak activity in the level bar but not related to the real sound, if I talk it doesn’t move).

as I understood, this two tests should avoid any doubt on muting the mic, may be, perhaps
I tested mic with arecord -vv -f S16_LE -c 2 new3.1.wav, mic seems to works, becouse the level bar that appear on konsole moves when I talk and it seems that react in the right way, but it don’t record anything, no sound present in new3.1.wav.
I tested mic with arecord new3.2.wav, mic don’t works.

thank you very much again, I’m going to the beach now, is a nice day here today, have a nice day, ciao, Pier

You are making all the correct checks.

Your screen prints did confuse me. It looks like some come from “stereo duplex” and others from “analog stereo output” so I can not confirm correct.

Your comment about the various arecords confused me. I have not recommended those. I’m not sure what I am supposed to read into them. I recommended:

arecord -vv -f S16_LE -c 2 -D hw:0,0 new.wav

where one explicity defines the input device to use. Please confirm that DOES record audio.

I REALLY NEED the output of the script

/usr/sbin/alsa-info.sh

please do not give up on getting that to work. Run it with pc connected to internet, select share/upload option, and post here URL it provides. Do you need more guidance on how to get that script to work ?
