Microphone not working for opensuse 11.0

I am using Dell Vostro 1000 with AMD athlon processor.I installed linux 3 months ago and I am finding it lot better than XP.I want to switch to linux completely but I am not able to do so because my microphone, which I use for Gizmo/Skype in windows, does not work in openSUSE 11.0.

I am thinking about using the vmware converter to convert my windows to launch from within suse. That way I do not lose time in booting into windows partition just to make a quick call. I am not sure if the microphone would work this way and I wanted your ideas/suggestions before trying it out.

Are there any other things I could try out! Please help.

Is that an internal microphone? Because very often the microphone channel is by default muted. Did you check the mixer applet?
