Message for kgroneman

I know but kgroneman isn’t accepting private messages and his message is important and i need to reply and can’t.

PLEASE DELETE THIS THREAD When Done.

I’ve tried to change my email address having followed instructions and i get an error message saying that my password is incorrect.

I know it isn’t though. I tried to do this more than a couple of years ago and failed then too. I tried yesterday a couple of times and again today too.

No joy

Hi
Wrong sub forum, will move to https://forums.opensuse.org/forumdisplay.php/690-How-to-use-the-forums
Closed temporarily.

Hi
Thread moved and reopened.

Thank you moving this thread.

I’ve tried to change my password and i got the expected error message.

can’t change password because your existing password entered is incorrect!

Stuck

You only tell you have tried to change your password and e-mail address “using instructions”. But as you do not tell us which instructions, we can not comment on what you did and if you did it correct or not.

I can only point to what is on the main page of these forums (when you used the << button at the right to show the extra panel). In that panel at right, at the top, it says:

Need to change your password or email address? Instructions are in our FAQ

When you click on that link, you get our FAQ opened the sections:

**How do I change my password?**
To change your forum password, go to the openSUSE Wiki page while not logged in: https://en.opensuse.org/Main_Page
  • Click on the SIGN UP link (not Login) in the upper right corner

  • On the resultant page, left menu, click EDIT ACCOUNT

  • On that page click CAN’T ACCESS YOUR ACCOUNT?

  • That should be the Forgot Password process. If not, there on the left menu, click FORGOT and select PASSWORD.

**Can I change my user ID or email address?**

The openSUSE Forums doesn't use vBulletin's built in authentication mechanism, but uses SUSE Login. For security reasons SUSE Login doesn't pass a user's password to vBulletin. It does pass a user ID and email address which is stored in your vBulletin profile and used to verify your identity when you login to the forums. This is only stored once when the vBulletin account is created and because it's the verification method, it can't be automatically updated by SUSE Login. Also, the forum software as configured doesn't support a dash "-" in a user ID even though you can register one on the SUSE or openSUSE site. If, for some reason, you want to change your ID or email address, or are having any problem with your account, you need to contact us (use the CONTACT US link in the footer) so we can get your vBulletin (Forum) account synchronized with SUSE Login

BTW, to conatct K. Groneman, you can use the link at the bottom of almost every page of these forums (in the language you selected for the forums):

Contacteer Ons

Followed these instructions:

To change your forum password, go to the openSUSE Wiki page while not logged in: https://en.opensuse.org/Main_Page
  • Click on the SIGN UP link (not Login) in the upper right corner
  • On the resultant page, left menu, click EDIT ACCOUNT
  • On that page click CAN’T ACCESS YOUR ACCOUNT?
  • That should be the Forgot Password process. If not, there on the left menu, click FORGOT and select PASSWORD.

Success, Changed password again and successfully entered my current mail address which was successfull and validated.

However… When i then login to this forum using my new password and then have a look at my profiles settings and specifically the very very old and redundant email address it remains unchanged. If i try to change that email address i get a message saying that my password is invalid!!

And do you get the notifications from the forum now on your oold or on your new e-mail address?

No because i continue to get a message saying that i cannot change my email address because my password is incorrect even though i have followed these instructions:

To change your forum password, go to the openSUSE Wiki page while not logged in: https://en.opensuse.org/Main_Page
  • Click on the SIGN UP link (not Login) in the upper right corner
  • On the resultant page, left menu, click EDIT ACCOUNT
  • On that page click CAN’T ACCESS YOUR ACCOUNT?
  • That should be the Forgot Password process. If not, there on the left menu, click FORGOT and select PASSWORD.

This i can do and is successfull.

But when i return to this forum and log back in and have a look at my email address for recieving topic reply notifications my email address remains unchanged and at the same time i cannot change it because my password is incorrect when i attempt too.

If i log out of the forum and login here: https://en.opensuse.org/Main_Page my details are correct including my email address. I can change things here but not when i login to this forum.

Successfully changing things here https://en.opensuse.org/Main_Page (Not logged into the forum) does not alter anything within the forum’s settings.

Have you used the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of each forum page to
make the request that your e-mail address be changed in the forums to
match the address on your Microfocus/SUSE account?

You cannot use the password fields built into the forum software, because
the forum doesn’t store the password - the password is stored in a single
sign-on store (making it more secure - the forum software we use has been
compromised in the past, but our passwords haven’t been because they’re
not stored in the forum software’s database).

If you updated your e-mail address in the login store per the FAQ, all
you need to do is visit the “contact us” link to get the request to the
right person to change it in the forum software.
