Mesa 32 bit

Im not able to install the package mesa-32bit from this repository:

Index of /repositories/X11:/XOrg/openSUSE_11.3

It tells me to make a huge change on architecture on many packages, plus downgrading mesa to 7.8.2 from 7.9 !

I would ask what problem you are trying to solve by up/down grading from mesa 7.8 to 7.9 in the first place?

Thank You,

No problems, just trying to get the most out of my hardware, and getting as much bug fixes as possible.

assas1n, on two different occasions, I did some updating on two different systems from the xorg repository. One worked OK, for an Intel Video Chipset and one did not work OK, for an nVidia chipset. In the case of the Intel setup, while it worked, I noticed no difference due to the upgrade. For the nVidia, a reload was required to get running again. So, I am thinking that while upgrading success may depend on your video chipset, why chance it? I am not seeing too many people here suggest this is a good thing to do and in any event, I would not suggest it in a situation where no problem was present thought to be fixed by such an upgrade. Of course, it could be a chance for you to work on how fast you can reload openSUSE, if you are into that kind of thing.

Thank You,

Well, before i made the decission on upgrading, i checked some Phoronix benchmarks regarding Mesa development, and i saw they indeed bring some really nice improvements !

My machine has a discrete AMD graphics card, HD4850, if that matters !
Because the issue i think, is there are some dependencie issues around Mesa-32bit package

Thanks

No one else has issues with mesa 32 bit not installing?

I had to install it in oS 11.3 64 bits to run bricscad. No problems.
Maybe you have too many/few/wrong priority repos?

Note: that is in a system with onboard nvidia.

So I gave this a dry run on my 64 bit system and found that I could (but I did not) upgrade all xorg and mesa files except for mesa 32 bit. It would allow a 64 bit mesa upgrade. So, I wonder if you go ahead and do it, leaving the 32 bit mesa behind and see what happens. You may even be able to update the 32 bit mesa version after you make the upgrade to everything else. It is worth a try. Keep in mind that you have some chance of breaking your video setup when you do this update and I don’t think it is related to the 32 bit mesa issue.

Thank You,

Thats how i got my system running at the moment. But with limited functionality, Ex: Wine doesent work, as with almost all games and 3d programs such as Google Earth

So, if you loaded everything else, have you gone in and tried to update only mesa-32 now to see if that can work after the fact?

Thank You,

Just tried installing mesa 32 bit 7.9, and no, i still cant. It throws a list of about 10 packages to be downgraded, architecture changed !
