First off, are you running 64-bit? I had this problem and was using the 32-bit flash wrapper. I installed the alpha Adobe 64-Bit flash player, and my flash ads no longer cover up the drop down menus.
Does anyone else have this same problem?
I do. I’m running OS11.0 64 bits with 32 bits flash-player 9.0.151 and firefox 3.0.3.
Does anyone know how to fix it?
I don’t. Sometimes reloading the page does it, but usually not.
*Thanks for looking *
you’re welcome
I am running openSUSE 11 32bit so I don’t think this is a 32-64 bit compatibility issue. Funny thing is that on my other desktop running the 64 bit OS with the 32 bit Flash Player I don’t have the same problem. Go figure.
Thanks for your reply though.
I’ve noticed the same problem on my OpenSuse 10.3 32bit system with FF 3.03 and Flash-player 9.0.151. Does exactly the same thing as in your screen shot, and I would also like to know if this can be fixed. This only happens on certain web sites, though. Not all of them.
Well… good news… I’ve seen this with openSUSE 11.0 too (32 and 64 bit).
With openSUSE 11.1 the sites giving me troubles display correctly.
Could have to do with the flash 10 / Java updates?
Just shows that the Flash Linux implementation sucks.
or has gotten better?!
I have the same problem at Dell.com. openSUSE 11.1RC1 + 64bit Flash 10 fixed it for me.
I too am having the problem with both KDE and Gnome: (32bit)
firefox 3.0.4
Flash player 9.0.151
Noticed it on NBC.com
FWIW: Upgraded to FireFox 3.04 (with Flash player 9.0.151)on OS 10.3 32bit and still have the same problem on some sites.
One web site that does this for certain: walmart.com. I just verified it. The Flash ad over writes the pop menus on the upper part of the main page. The Dell web site works properly also. Tried NBC.com as posted earlier, and it was fine too.
Makes you wonder where the problem is, doesn’t it?
Hi
I had a look at the walmart site (It was doing it for me) and added the
following filter to adblock (add in) http://i.walmart.* and reloaded the
page and it now allows the menu to be seen. I also use httpfox to
investigate and add filters to adblock.

I think the solution here is to be found in flash 10…
Looking through the build service there is one flash 10 package available for openSUSE 11.0 : software.openSUSE.org/seach , flash results
Haven’t tested it myself (running 11.1 RC1 at the moment), so tread with caution…
Cheers,

Thanks for the tip about httpfox. That will come in handy for adding filters, though I rarely find the need to do so. Pretty interesting extension. I Google’d it and found some blog entries about using it to troubleshoot networks too.
I’m posting this from work, so I’m suffering with a Windows box. Tried the same sites in FireFox and they all work from the Windows version of it. (The Flash version in Windows is 10).
Guess it’ll be a wait for OS 10.3. I’m not upgrading my system until after 11.1 comes out – but it won’t be long now anyway.
O.K. I updated to Flash Player 10,0,12,36 and it all works now. See below:

I hope this works for others as well.
Is Flash 10 available at the standard repo’s ? (Pacman ?)
Or did you have to manually install it from another source ?
Since this seems to have been a big problem for a long time. Any version of flash previous to flash 10 had this overlay problem. It was an ongoing bug for about 6 years. So, if you are looking to install flash player 10 and resolve this problem here’s how you go about doing that. First, a little question, what bit system are you currently using. If you are using a 64 bit operating system I recommend installing the beta 64 bit version of flash player 10. You can download that from here.
Adobe Labs - Downloads: Flash Player 10
if you are using a 32 bit version of openSUSE you can download the correct player here
Adobe - Adobe Flash Player
make sure that you select the .tar.gz for Linux download. The rpm will not operate correctly.
1:But before installing the download version you must remove the current version of flash that you have installed. You can do so by navigating to Yast > Software > Software Management. Under filter make sure that “Search” is selected. Input the search term “flash”. Once it retrieves the packages installed go ahead and right click on “flash-player” and select “delete”. If you see “flash-plugin” delete that file also. Click “Accept” to delete those packages.
2: Unzip, the file that you just downloaded, to a directory in your home folder. For organization purposes I made a folder called Unzipped which is within my Home folder.
3: Once you are done unzipping the file next we are going to move the flash player shared object file from the directory that you unzipped it to. In order to do that you must be the root user. The way I do this procedure is, in KDE, right click the desktop and choose “run command”. Once the Run Command dialog box opens I input “kdesu konqueror”. Click “Run” and then it will prompt you for your root password. Enter your password and click “OK”. Now be extremely careful as you have full access to all of your files.
4: Make sure that firefox is closed while doing this procedure.
32-Bit:If you are using a 32 bit operating system go ahead and copy the libflashplayer.so file from the folder that you unzipped to the “/usr/lib/browser-plugins” folder.
64-Bit:If you are using the 64 bit version of openSUSE , make sure that you downloaded the flash player that I indicated previously and copy the libflashplayer.so file from the folder that you unzipped to the “/usr/lib64/browser-plugins” folder.
close konqueror and open up firefox. You shouldn’t have the overlay problem anymore. You can verify that firefox is installed by navigating in firefox to Edit > Preferences > Main > Manage Add-ons…> Plugins. You should see version 10 of flash player installed. Hope that helps people.
Meant to get back here and post …
I went to the link previously provided above http://software.opensuse.org/ymp/home:cubo/openSUSE_11.0/flash-player.ymp
I removed the old version first ( habit ) then installed the one above via “1click install”
Restarted firefox and it was resolved.
