menu

Installed Suse 11.1. It found Windows and partitions, other linux OK which it put in the menu. When I changed a title in menu.lst by editing the file or through Yast it then brings up a black and white menu with such things as Fedora 7 which I haven’t used for years. I could not get around this except to reload Suse. thanks

Hi garc, welcome here. I’m not clear: Do you want to repair it or have you moved on and actually reinstalled?

I have reinstalled but I would like to edit the menu mostly just the titles. I have many times before been able to edit the linux menus without any problems but now I get this old menu after I try an edit and none of the selections in this old menu work. I also got this problem when I tried to change the boot order using Yast. I loaded OpenSuse from a CD attached to a magazine.

If you edit the boot menu via Yast (there was a bug in this which broke the bootloader).

I always edit the menu file manually.

A bug as caf4926 mentioned prevents using yast’s tools to edit the menu. You can boot into openSUSE, install all updates to get rid of the bug (because there is a bugfix) and then use Yast’s tools to change the menu.

Make sure that the version of the RPM yast2-bootloader is 2-17-50-1.1.1 (or higher I suppose).
