Memory RAM

Hello,

In my laptop I have two modules of 2GB DDR2 667, my graphic card is on ATI radeon HD 3470.
I have tried to install opensuse 11.3 64bit many times with 4GB of memory, but i can’t install it. So I have look in internet to remove 2Gb of the 4GB and then I can install it.

Someone can tell me what is that issue? How can I fix it? It is normal?

Regards,

Luis

It could be bad ram…you could run memtest on the RAM to see if it is bad RAM; you should run it for at least 12 hrs. Also, did you purchase the additional RAM? It could be that the 2 modules just do not like each other :frowning: I have worked on many laptops; and I have run into this issue before.

Cheers!

no, that’s not normal. i can think of two things that may be causing this:

  1. your two DDR2 chips have different speed, and your motherboard can’t handle this;
  2. one of your DDR2 chips is bad.

otherwise openSUSE doesn’t have any problem dealing with 4GB (or more) of RAM.
