Medion Akoya P8610 problems

Hello,

My lady bought here a Medion Akoya P8610 (MD 97320) laptop.
Today I tried to install OpenSuse 11.1 on that laptop but sofar I didn’t
managed to get that thing working properly. My first concern is the
display.
It comes with a Nvidia Geforce 9600M GS 512 MB graphic card. The normal
resolution should be 1680x945.
I only get a 1024x768 resolution.
I tried to install the latest Nvidia drivers (via Yast) but this ended
into a dead system. After a restart of the X-server I get: …
fatal server error
no screens found

I’m really stucked. What can I do to get the full resolution?

To answer to myself. I solved the problem. In the BIOS I disabled the
Hybrid setting and now the laptop is running in 1680x945 resolution.
Next problem to tackle is the very slow wireless connection.

Running openSuse 11.1 / KDE 3.5.10

This is not so easy, not working for me :-S.
(64bit OpenSuSE 11.1 AND 64bit SLED 11)

i solve it partialy seting vga=0x37b on kernel boot to run the 1280x720 fb mode (best fb mode for 16x9 screen)
but the nvidia driver not work

(in ubuntu nvida driver work fine)

Ok, i find,

  1. put vga=0x37b in boot config for nice 1280x720 fb mode
  2. in bios disable hybrid mode
  3. un install any nvidia driver instaled by YaST
  4. compile the drivers from nvidia web site
  5. i use sax2 -m 0=nvidia and save

bug 1) GPU0 is a 9100M G instead the 9600M but at last is working in fine 1680x945 mode
bug 2) ubuntu do it automaticaly! why not suse?
bug 3) we need disable hybrid mode on bios

Ok, i find more,

  1. put vga=0x37b in boot config for nice 1280x720 fb mode
  2. in bios disable hybrid mode
  3. un install any nvidia driver instaled by YaST
  4. compile the drivers from nvidia web site
  5. i use sax2 -m 0=nvidia and save
    now linux work fine
6)then i swith bios to hybrid mode (linux not work)
    7)modify the xorg.conf and add a line
    Driver “nvidia”
    +BusID “PCI:3:0:0”
next to <<Driver “nvidia”>> original line

this is needed for choice of one of 2 video card in hybrid mode with the some driver)
(by aware linux is using one card not realy hybrid mode but if you as a dual boot this config alow hybrid mode with vista)

Now this fine,

Thx myself
